About Huawei
Huawei is a global information and communications technology (ICT) provider headquartered in Shenzhen, China. Its portfolio covers telecommunications networks, enterprise equipment, devices, and cloud services. For internet service providers (ISPs), Huawei provides PPPoE concentrators and OLTs.
What the integration does
On the concentrator (PPPoE NAS):
- PPPoE authentication through Hubsoft’s RADIUS, with primary and secondary servers.
- The plan speed is delivered through RADIUS. Providers that do not use dynamic bandwidth control must register QoS profiles on the equipment using Hubsoft’s standard naming convention.
- IPv4 address and delegated IPv6 prefix received through RADIUS.
- Subscriber disconnection through Hubsoft using PoD/CoA on port 3799.
- IPv4 and IPv6 suspension pools, allowing suspended subscribers to browse within a separate range.
- List of connected customers and real-time bandwidth usage chart.
On the OLT:
- Query of connected ONUs and those pending authorization on each PON.
- ONU authorization with customer, service, and CPE profile. Provisioning runs immediately afterward.
- Deauthorization, plus bulk authorization and provisioning, one PON at a time.
- Hubsoft reference CPE profiles for Huawei: bridge, bridge with ONUs from other brands, router, and router with Wi-Fi.
Integrated OLTs: MA56XXT and MA58XX, both through Telnet on port 23.
What you need
- Huawei concentrator with active PPPoE service licenses (check with the display license command).
- Correct date and time on the concentrator, synchronized through NTP.
- The same RADIUS secret on the equipment and in Hubsoft.
- An SSH user on the concentrator for Hubsoft.
- For the OLT: user, password, and Telnet access, plus CPE profiles under Configuration > Network > CPE Profiles.
- The POP for each device registered under Network > Points of Presence.
How to activate
- Under Network > Connection Equipment, add the Huawei concentrator with its name, IP, manufacturer, model, and POP. Enable RADIUS, enter the secret and incoming port, select the NAS type, and fill in the SSH user.
- On the concentrator, configure the RADIUS group with the secret from the registration, PoD/CoA on port 3799, authentication and accounting schemes, the domain with the pools, and the Virtual-Template, following the wiki model.
- For suspension, create suspension pools on Huawei and enter their names in the pool variables under Configuration > General > Variables.
- Register the OLT under Network > Connection Equipment with its user, password, and Telnet port 23, and add the PON ports under the Interfaces tab.
- Test under Actions > View Connected Customers, in the Layer 3 (concentrator) and Layer 2 (OLT) tabs.
The step-by-step instructions with screenshots are available in the Hubsoft wiki: Huawei concentrator, OLT and port registration and integrated OLT list.
Limitations
- With static bandwidth control, each speed requires a QoS profile on Huawei named according to Hubsoft’s standard, such as HUBSOFT-QOS-PROFILE-500000-DOWN-500000-UP.
- Without PoD/CoA configuration, Hubsoft cannot disconnect the subscriber on the concentrator.
- Connection history and CGNAT mapping depend on the correct date and time on the concentrator and RADIUS.
- On the OLT, bulk authorization and provisioning process one PON at a time.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to register plans on the Huawei concentrator?
No, if bandwidth control is dynamic: the speed comes from Hubsoft through RADIUS. With static control, create one QoS profile per speed on the equipment, using Hubsoft’s standard naming convention.
How does Hubsoft terminate a subscriber’s connection on Huawei?
Through PoD/CoA. The concentrator must accept RADIUS requests on port 3799, using the same secret as the registration.
My Huawei OLT is not an MA56XXT or MA58XX. What now?
Contact the Hubsoft Infra Support team, which will assess the feasibility of integrating the model.
